SPARTINA and GANNET

Webb and I went down to the docks this afternoon to get some photographs of SPARTINA and GANNET tied up side by side.  It was kind of fun.  Webb has been a great host for the last couple days on Hilton Head.  I’m heading out tomorrow morning with a good forecast.

So I sail SPARTINA on bays and sounds, Webb sailed GANNET around the world.   Guess who gets to tell sailings stories over drinks in the evening.

more packing

Packing continues with lots of little chores.  Tucked away all the sleeping gear, loaded the big waterproof duffel with clothes, checked the notebook and cook kit duffels.  Changed the oil in the outboard and test ran it for a while.  Washed the boom tent and put it out to dry.

I've got a good forecast for the drive down and then a good day to launch.  Light winds forecast for the first two day of the trip, then maybe some weather.  We'll see.

weather window and tracking url

I've got a two day weather window with clear skies Monday and Tuesday.  That is what a need to start the trip south, a nice day to drive to Charleston and then a nice day to rig and launch.  (It is no fun to rig/launch in the rain.). Low tide at Elliott Cut is 9:11 a.m., I'll need the slack tide to make it through the cut.  And then I'll get an assist from the incoming tide on the Stone River.  Wind forecast for Tuesday is not great but we'll take what we get.
I've created a SPOT tracking page which you can find here, or copy and paste the url below.  No data there now, it should go live Tuesday morning.

packing

The packing begins.  Just laying out gear now to see what I've got, what I need to track down.

Sleeping gear (sleeping pad, bivy and sleeping bag) at left.   Dry suit, two green dry bags of freeze dried meals, storage batteries and charging cords in grey pelican box, gallon bags of meal kits (breakfast bars, cups of fruit and cans of tuna) in the cardboard box.  Waxed canvas hat to keep my head dry, plastic jars and vacuum packs of more food in the little grey tub, green insulated lunch box.  One of the orange waterproof duffels hold the cooking kit, the other has my logbook/books for reading.  Red mesh bag at upper right has tether and lifejacket/harness, some towels, GPS and SPOT locator beacon.  Still more gear to come but somehow it all disappears into SPARTINA.
