it's been a while but it seems like I was able to buy the g2 charts for the east coast and they came on a tiny card that fit into the gps. Garmin has a great help line and I'm sure they could assist you.
As for Cedar Island to Ocracoke, car ferries make than run every day so I don't see what a cat couldn't do it. Yes, there are shoals going into Ocracoke, but there are very well marked channels through the shoals. I would just watch weather because there is virtually no protection between Cedar Island and Ocracoke. Once you are out there you'll have to deal with whatever weather comes your way.
For your Garmin, how do you load the NOAA charts? Did you buy the Bluecharts G2 or somehow load your own?
ReplyDeleteAlso how dicey would it be to sail from Cedar Island to Ocracoke? Can I dance over the shoals with my Hobie Getaway(draws 21")

Thanks Steve. Love reading about your adventures! You are quite the sailor.
ReplyDeleteSteve-what is the make of the stove shown in the gear photo? Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteIt is a jetboil stove, though I cannot recall the model. Maybe one of their personal cooking systems.
