I dropped by to see my friends on the Schooner Virginia today and was rewarded with a chance to climb the rigging and enjoy the view from above.
You'll notice that the booms and gaffs are swung to starboard, which heels the ship slightly to that the crew and volunteers can repaint the port waterline. Then they'll be swung to port so the starboard waterline can be painted.
The Virginia will be leaving mid-week, bound for a month of sailing events in Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts. She'll be back mid-September for local events here and on Chesapeake Bay.
Have a great trip, Virginia!
