Up in the air with some science friends yesterday, a few hours on a NASA C-130 flying out of Wallops Flight Facility on the Eastern Shore. The science was definitely over my head, way way way over my head. But they did their best to explain it to me. Better than sitting in an office all day. And I got to peek out of the windows and see some of my favorite places.
That's Cape Charles and Fisherman Island at
the southern tip of the Eastern Shore.
Above is Longs Pond with the town harbor at
Cape Charles all the way to the right.
Quinby Inlet.
The town of Wachapreague at lower left and
Wachapreague inlet just below the props.
This one has me stumped. It's on the western shore
of the bay, south of the Potomac and North of the James.
Anybody out there recognize it?
And this is what brought us home a little bit early.
It was a great flight.

Pretty cool. Hope you're doing well, Steve!
more than just cool......awesomely cool....green with envy Steve
Thanks, Dave, yes, doing well. Hope you are too. And yes, Steve, it was cooler than cool. Sometimes life is like that.

Looks like a really fun trip. I'm pretty certain that last aerial is looking south to a view of New Point Comfort in the distance, with the coast of Matthews County in the foreground. Those squiggly creeks are the delta and barrier island that protect the mouth of Winter Harbor. Story about that place I'll tell you next time I see you. ;-)
Hi Steve -
That unidentified area looks to me like Windmill Point, north side of the Rappahannock River.
Nope. B's got it right. New Point. Mobjack beyond. Horn Harbor and Winter Harbor to north. Pretty cool.
Barry, not convinced on your thought. Bill, Eddie, maybe. You guys know that area much better than me. I'll have another look at the maps. steve
I see it now, definitely New Point Comfort. Took me a while to spot that little creek/canal at the bottom of the photograph, but it is there. Thanks, guys. Nice reminder that my boat should in fact be able to sail on the western shore of the bay. steve
