day twenty-six - fog, storms and sunshine

Morning comes with the thickest of fogs.  Thunder at 7:00.

Hot tea with breakfast while waiting out the weather.

The sounds of light rain, thunder, diesel engines and birds while I read under the boom tent.

11:30 rain and fog gone.  Stow the gear, bring down the boom tent.  Sail of anchor at noon, hoping to pass through Burnt Coat Harbor on Swans Island.  Stowing the anchor I look up to see the fog moving back in.  The south end of Swans Island disappears in the fog bank.

Head northeast towards West Point, making 4.5 aided by a strong flood tide.  The fog slides north and the island disappears near the swirling waters at West Point where two tides collide.

Sailing just off the fog-covered rocky shore to the north-northeast.

Passing Buckle Harbor the slides back south and we've got bright blue skies.  1:30 caught in competing tides in Casco Passage just off Orono Island.

1:45 exploring the western side of beautiful Mackerel Bay.  See a couple of nice anchorages, but also see the fog coming back over the island.  Enough of that.  Turn back to clear skies and the anchorage at Orono Island.  Anchor down 3:10.
