another use

Glad to have a few buffs in the gear closet.  Yes, I'll have to pull it up to cover my nose, still nice to have on hand.

From the NYTimes:  Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are considering altering the official guidance to encourage people to take measures to cover their faces amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a federal official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because it is an ongoing matter of internal discussion and nothing has been finalized.

If you use one of those (or a bandana), remember to slip it in tight near your nose, otherwise air will circulate in.. also fogs your glasses as you exhale.

I have a removable-filter paint respirator, wondering what the particulate-filtration value is on that. In the meantime, I'm using surgical masks at the grocery store. Yeah, the WHO says it's not effective, but so far it's been very effective in keeping people away from ME. Or maybe I'm just ugly.....

Solo sailors have no problem with social distancing, good for you for getting out on the water Steve!

RE masks, I was curious about how likely masks are to help. An online NIH journal article states that COVID-19 virus particles measure 60-140 nanometers (nm). That is 0.06-0.14 microns (a micron is 1/1000 of a millimeter). Ref: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK554776/

N95 masks are certified to block 95% of particles 0.3 microns or larger. So the virus particles are smaller than what N95 masks are intended to block, but they probably couldn't hurt. Same with a bandana. A larger benefit may be to keep you from touching your face and moving germs from your hands to your face.
