Cold, overcast morning. Hot chocolate with breakfast. 7:05 under power, glassy calm water with a light north breeze.
7:20 out of the Somes Harbor, sails up and making 2.0 tacking downwind. 7:50 better wind, 3.3 with wind over the starboard quarter. Overcast sliding south, the sun feels good.
8:40 tack into Valley Cove, a favorite anchorage I've used in the past, three sailboats and a huge yacht anchored there. 9:00 the wind is building and it is wind against tide where the Sound narrows at the southern end, very choppy. 9:30 gusty at the east end of Greening Island. Round Eastern Point, tuck up into the cove on the island's south side.
Think about putting in a reef, but instead bring down the main completely. With wind on the beam, easy sail under mizzen and jib into Southwest Harbor. 10:15 round up at the Upper Town Dock, sails down and tied to the dock.
Walk the few blocks up Clark Point Road to Main Street, get a nice glass of iced tea and a Ceasar Salad.
12:30 cast off from the town dock, motor over to the southwest corner of Southwest Harbor. 1:00 anchor down near a private pier and a few mooring balls.
Put up the boom tent to get out from under the hot sun. Take a nap. Spend the afternoon cleaning, reading, relaxing, catching up on the log. NOAA weather tells me today is the day for the biggest waves from Erin. Forecast is for three foot waves tomorrow.
