windless, humid, thunderstorms

After several days of excellent weather, the early summer weather pattern has caught up with me.  Light winds today, thunderstorms rolling around.   I’ve reached most of my goals - Ocracoke, Oriental, Beaufort, Cape Lookout, Shackleford Banks and Belhaven.   I would like to make it to Washington which is several miles up the Pamlico River from where I am anchored on Durham Creek.   We’ll see what the weather allows

Oh my - seriously loud (on canvas) rain pellets! Steve, I was recently asked about lightning protection. I have my thoughts but you sir are the one "living it" 20+ times a year?! Would you mind taking a moment and going over your thoughts, your creations to deal with this. If you have done so previously, can you show us how to find your words - thanks much

Another great anchorage. You should also try Goose Creek at the state park. Once the daytime boat ramp traffic leaves, it is a great spot.

I've struggled with that over the years. A statistician friend pointed out to me that chances of being hit by lightning in a given year is roughly one in a million. Once out on the water there is really nothing that can be done. My masts are wooden, not metal. I just hope for the best. Seems to have worked so far.
