relief, no relief

That is part of the relief crew, most likely sailors who flew home a week earlier from deployment to be on the pier and relieve the rest of the crew as the aircraft carrier - in this case the Eisenhower - comes home.  The sailors were at the far end of the pier and all the hugging and kissing went on closer to shore.  Off the end of the pier, over the James River, you can see some of the unstable weather we have had for a few days now.  Thunderstorms threatened all day, but all we got were a few light showers.

There is no relief is sight as moisture hangs over the mid-Atlantic.  Somebody told me to weather systems were funneling the moist air from the Gulf of Mexico over us.  That seems like it could be true.  I do hope it clears for sailing on Sunday.

I feel like I am officially to blame for all the bad weather this spring.

We pulled Papoose's 45' mast in March and immediately the weather changed and became unfit for ( outdoor ) varnishing for over a month. That's an iffy time of year anyway and not unexpected.

But, we got one coat on and Paxton's, and everywhere else for that matter, couldn't get our varnish (Awlgrip) for about a month and a half.

The varnish finally arrived last week in time for this weather system. Maybe we'll make it out by middle of July. . .

Half a year of sailing is better than nothing.

Thanks for the confession. We will hold you only partially responsible. But get on the water quick.

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall.

But not this much!!!
